What are day night cellular shades?
Day and night cellular shades, also known as day night cellular blinds, are a combination of blackout shade material and translucent or sheer material all in one. They are made of honeycomb cellular fabric, which is excellent for energy efficiency and insulation. The material of both fabrics is stacked on top of eachother, basically giving you two cellular shades in one. Often you will have a light filtering or sheer fabric on top, and a blackout or room darkening fabric on the bottom. This allows you the option of having the bottom half of the room blocked for privacy, while filtering in light through the top.
How does a day night cellular shade work?
Day night cellular shades have the material stack at the top, and as you pull them down you can have either the light filtering or blackout shade cover the entirety of the window. The blackout and light filtering fabrics are stacked on top of eachother and divided by a middle rail. You can adjust that middle rail to have the top half of the window covered by the top fabric, and the bottom half of the window covered by the bottom fabric, or anywhere in between.
What is the benefit of light filtering vs room darkening window treatments?
Light filtering window treatments are a great choice for when you want privacy and to reduce the heat from incoming sunlight, but still want your room to be filled with natural light. For living rooms and kitchens, this is a good option that keeps your room airy and bright during the day. If you used a room darkening window treatment here it might make the room feel too stuffy or isolated.
Room darkening window treatments are ideal for when you want complete privacy or greater darkness in a room, whether it is for better sleep or to reduce glare. This makes them great for TV rooms, media rooms, home theaters, bedrooms, and nurseries.
So by combining both into one shade, it's easy to see how you can get the benefits of both whenever you want, for example if it is a living room/kitchen that doubles as a home theater or work space. With a simple adjustment of a day and night shade, you can get the perfect atmosphere for whatever activity you need it for.
