5 Blinds That Give You The Best View Through While Reducing Glare

The Need to Preserve Outside View

Irrespective of whether you have a gorgeous view of the outside, it feels reassuring to be able to see out. Windows are your source of connection with the outside world once you step inside. You can get a glimpse of people, of the garden, a view of the trees and fresh blooms and of course a slice of the sky. And if you have a view to boast of like a beach or a mountain range then preserving and protecting this view becomes a mission. There is a catch, however. Getting an unobstructed view at the cost of privacy, heat and harmful UV rays is not desirable or preferable. A bare uncovered window will allow you the best view of the outside but will jeopardize the privacy and security of the house, allow easy flow of heat which reduces the energy efficiency of the house and will allow UV rays and glaring beams of the sun to stream in unfiltered.

The Need to Keep Out Heat & Glare

Heat can make your stay in the house unpleasant and undesirable while the glaring beams make it difficult to get work done or catch up on sleep. UV rays can harm your body and the furnishings in the house and cause them to fade and peel off prematurely. So, the challenge is to find a window treatment that will help you to achieve that precarious balance between maintenance of outside view, blocking out heat and UV rays and reducing the unwanted glare of the sun inside the house.

Most of the window treatments that we have like blinds, shades and drapes can offer you either view or privacy and light blockage. If you want to block out UV rays and heat, you will have to do so at the cost of outside view and if you wish to preserve the view then you will have to sacrifice the need for keeping heat and UV rays out. Drapes, for example, cannot offer your both unless you opt for a layered window treatment.

Blinds/Shades for Preserving View

However, we have identified few blinds that can do a fairly commendable job of achieving this balance for you.

Solar Shades

At the top of our list, we have Solar Shades. These are a fantastic choice for your windows if you want to preserve your gorgeous view while keeping the interiors pleasant and protected from the glares and harmful UV rays. Solar shades are made of woven fabric with different levels of transparencies. They are available between 1% to 15% openness, from least openness to the most. A lesser level of openness means more light control and privacy for your rooms while greater openness means more light, less privacy and a better view of the outside. Solar shades are perfect for reducing glare and heat while allowing you to get a view of the outside. The porous weave of the fabric offers day time privacy but is not great for night times and you may need to layer it with some other window treatment. So if you are looking for a window blind for the best view and soft diffused light, solar shades are your best bet.

Aluminum Mini Blinds

Aluminum mini blinds are available in slat sizes ranging between ½ inch and 2 inches. Adjusting the louver and the slats allow you to adjust the amount of light you want in the room and your view of the outside. They allow an unobstructed view of the outside and allow diffused light to filter inside. Aluminum blinds are great insulators and hence help to block out the heat and also the harmful UV rays.
Aluminum Metal Blinds

Faux Wood Blinds

Faux Wood Blinds are another interesting choice for your windows. They are made from vinyl foam and come in different vane sizes of 1 inch to 2.5 inches. Adjusting the slats and louvers allows you optimal light control, privacy and insulation at the same time. If you are looking for a better view of the outside we recommend going for broader vanes. Broader the vanes clearer the view you get of the outside.

Wood Blinds

A gorgeous and stunning addition for your rooms, wood blinds is a show stealer all the way. Real wood is elegant and graceful and lend a warm and soft touch to your interiors and windows. Wood blinds are available in vane sizes above 2 inches which allows an unobstructed view of the outside while diffusing the natural light and filling your room with a warm hue of sunlight sans the glares and the harmful UV rays.
Natural Wooden Shades

Sheer Shades

Sheer shades are made of soft sheer fabric that offers light control by combining tilted vanes. They are fitted with airy material that allows diffused light to stream into the house when these vanes are tilted. The sheer material allows a clear view of the outside. If you want privacy you simply need to close the vanes. For added privacy, you can layer sheer shades with drapes.

Opt for any of the above shades/blinds to maximize your view of the outside and fill your homes with warm diffused light sand the heat and the glares.

  1. I am looking for a window blind for a 8’ X 4’ window. I want something that I can look out of but that no one can see in. I have dark curtains on this window for at night. I’m looking for something for privacy for during the day. Please advise what you think might be best and approximate costs.
