Blackout

Blackout Blinds - Blackout Shades

Blackout shades bring your room to the dark side, providing total light blockage while maximizing privacy. Unlike light filtering or room darkening blinds which generally provide light control that reduces up to 95% of the light and glow from outside, a blackout shade is made of high quality materials that completely block light. That makes blackout window shades one of the best options for your media rooms, home offices, bedrooms, or other places where you want total darkness on command.

Is it good to sleep with blackout window treatments?

It is highly recommended to get blackout blinds for windows in your bedrooms as they are the best way to get a good night's sleep. Our bodies need darkness to properly sleep at night, and blackout curtains, shades, or blinds are a great way to get that done. Cellular shades in particular are an excellent option as they are made of an energy efficient material that also keeps your bedroom at a comfortable temperature. Go for a cellular shade with double cell over single cell materials for added insulation and comfort.

Can you see through blackout blinds at night?

When properly fitted and installed to your window frame, blackout blinds cannot be seen through at night. The material is completely opaque and will not provide any views through.

Do blackout blinds block all light?

Compared to room darkening fabrics, custom blackout blinds will block 100% of the light through the material itself. That said when mounted inside the window opening, light leakage can seep through the sides of the blinds. While natural light can leak through the gaps and sides of the window, the best blackout shades have additional mounting hardware and blackout options such as side channels to help reduce those gaps. So if that is a particular concern, make sure you go for brands and styles that have side channels to reduce light gaps. Alternatively, an outside mount shade will also help reduce light gaps as the excess fabric will overlap the window.

Are roller shades or roman shades considered blackout window coverings?

For roller shades, roman shades, or similar styles such as woven wood shades, you need to make sure you select a blackout material. For roman shades, in most cases you would instead select a blackout liner which would add the blackout effect to your blind. Window coverings such as solar shades and vertical blinds are generally not considered blackout.

What are the biggest benefits of blackout window shades?

A blackout shade not only provides darkness, they are also excellent at blocking UV rays, keeping your home and furniture more protected, and providing energy efficiency be reducing heat from incoming light, lowering your air conditioning costs during the summer. If you are a student, have a home office, or just want to watch TV and game at home, blackout blinds are must for reducing annoying glare on your screen. And sometimes when it comes to the weekend, we just want to sleep in - a blackout shade helps with that too!

Thankfully, blackout blinds are available in a wide variety of options and styles as well, so don't think that you have to sacrifice that interior designer look. Get custom blackout blinds in multiple sizes, from a roller shade to a pleated shade. Choose neutral colors like light gray or vivid yellows and oranges. Go for a cordless lift system for less clutter and added safety and convenience for kids and pets.
